Overview of the society
Characteristics of the Forum
Generally, academic conferences aim to facilitate the exchange of the latest research findings within a field and to foster professional relationships among participants. Participants are typically limited to researchers in that field.
However, to realize our goal of “INOCHI MEGURU MACHI*,” it is crucial to gather diverse wisdom across disciplinary boundaries, engage supportive residents and businesses, and forge a common language for society.
*“INOCHI MEGURU MACHI” means a town where life is interconnected and circulates.
Participants from a Wide Range of Academic Fields are Welcome
Our society welcomes participants from a wide range of academic fields, regardless of their field.
Sciences, sociology, economics, cultural anthropology, informatics, communications, history, architecture, civil engineering, art, and more—all of these fields are important for realizing “INOCHI MEGURU MACHI.” Approaches from unexpected academic fields may also be effective. We welcome the participation of many researchers interested in this initiative.
We also encourage students who will become the leaders of the next generation.

The General Public are also Welcome.
Participants are not limited to researchers. We are open to a wide range of people, including those from companies, self-employed, national and local government officials, high school, university, and graduate students, and residents interested in revitalizing their communities.
Our activities are based on town development.
We come together to truly understand the challenges facing our cities and to solve them, which broadens the dialogue beyond the boundaries of our fields and allows us to connect with people from a new world.
Researchers who normally think in a closed-off space within their own fields can connect with experts in completely different fields and hear the voices of the general public. Those interested in urban development can leave with inspiration and make new friends.

Greetings
Global challenges, including climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and ocean acidification, are increasingly evident in our daily lives and are expected to exert direct and significant impacts in the near future. Against this backdrop, we consider the initiative toward a recycling-oriented society that originated in Minamisanriku Town to represent a practical and sustainable approach that can progress steadily through local networks, independent of short-term fluctuations in the global capitalist system.
Through the advancement of academic inquiry, the promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration, and close cooperation with the local community, this society aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. As our activities are firmly grounded in the communities and lived experiences of Minamisanriku Town, we can address issues from perspectives not constrained by a single academic discipline. This characteristic constitutes both a defining feature and a significant strength of our society.
We encourage the participation of a wide range of people, including both local residents and participants from outside the region, and we regard the integration of academia and society as one of the core missions of this association. We believe that the inclusion of diverse perspectives and practices rooted in various viewpoints will enrich and advance academic research. We sincerely look forward to broad and active participation.
In conclusion, we respectfully request your continued understanding and support.
President of the Minamisanriku INOCHI MEGURU MACHI GAKKAI
